The only community cookbook to have been originated by a bi-partisan act of Congress, the Congressional Club cookbooks are a fun and fascinating collections of recipes submitted by the who's-who in Washington, D.C. at the time they were published. Recipes were submitted by the wives of the President, Vice-President, and members of Congress and represent the wide breadth of regional cuisine in the United States.
This seventh edition from 1965 has fun recipes such as "President Dwight Eisenhower's Beef Stew" and a meatloaf recipe submitted by Richard Nixon (or more likely an aide, but I digress). Of particular interest are recipes submitted by the various embassies in Washington, giving the reader a broad view into what the elites in the United States were eating during those times.
