About the Author:
On October 17, 1930, in the St. Mark's Parish House, 98 young women heard the reading of the proposed constitution and bylaws of the Junior Service League, which three years later became the Junior League of Shreveport, Inc. The group concentrated primarily on social service. Among its first activities were social casework, the maintenance of two clothing centers for the needy, bookbinding, and Braille transcription.
Today's Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
